Why is visiting a garden centre a particularly British institution? We’re not ashamed to admit that we have a long-standing love affair with garden centres and regularly spend the afternoon wandering around and enjoying a spot of lunch in one of our many local garden centres.

When the country first went into lockdown in 2020 the question “when are garden centres reopening?” was Googled more times than questions about school closures! It seems that the whole of the UK also has a love for garden centres so we are sharing just a few of our favourites in and around South Wales.

Morris’ of Usk

Winners of Family Business of the Year 2020 at the Welsh Business Awards, Chris and Jane Morris and their family continue to expand their business from a simple garden centre to a popular butchery, farm shop and restaurant. From enviable furniture to their locally sourced food hall prepare to spend the afternoon finding new ways to improve your garden and pantry!

The Secret Garden

Steeped in history, the original farmhouse at The Secret Garden is over 400 years old with the Williams family running the farm for four generations. In addition to the traditional garden centre, there is also a nursery within the Secret Garden that specialises in unusual plants and let’s not forget Sally’s Tea Rooms which boasts views of the stunning surrounding countryside.

Raglan Garden Centre

Bringing together their passion for gardening and expert knowledge, the Davies family have restored this business to serve the local community focusing on customer service and family values. The vast range of indoor and outdoor furniture offers inspiration for any home along with the gardening essentials that you need to create the perfect home. Once you’ve finished shopping you’re invited to relax and refuel at the Sugarloaf Restaurant with picturesque views of the Black Mountains.

Chepstow Garden Centre

The dedicated Plant Team in the garden centre will help you keep your plants looking beautiful all year round, offering support and advice on all aspects of your garden. The Farm Shop is popular amongst locals providing local produce from the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean and across Wales and the South West.

Pugh’s Garden Centre

For over 65 years Pugh’s has become an impressive village that includes shops, lodges, independent businesses and a food hall. Christmas at Pugh’s is a particular favourite of ours, their Christmas Experience has grown into a locally and nationally recognised event with visits with an impressive Father Christmas whilst raising money for some incredible charities.
