This summer is certainly going to be different, most holidays cancelled, being asked to stay home to keep safe, but all is not lost. Take advantage of the nice weather, and complete these five DIY jobs that you can do around your home. These improvements may also help your property to sell, if you decide to put it on the market post lockdown, as well as increasing its value.
As the weather here in Wales can be so unpredictable, we’re advising you to check the forecast before you complete any of the outdoor jobs on our list.
Home Décor
Decide which rooms you’d like to update or improve with some simple tiling or a lick of paint. Open the windows and doors to help the adhesives and paint dry quickly, leaving your room smelling clean and fresh. Due to the longer days, you can take advantage of the lighter nights spending more time to get the job done right.
If you’re completing these home improvements with an intention of selling, consider using neutral colours throughout your home to allow potential buyers to put their own stamp on the property.
Exterior TLC
You’ve been cleaning your home and making improvements where possible, but what about the exterior? Your paths, patio, decking, lawn, gutters and exterior walls all need some TLC. You’ll be surprised by how much of a difference giving your home’s exterior a good clean will make. Use a pressure washer to clean and restore areas such as your walls, paths and patio. Decking paint, or stain, also freshens up the overall look, as well as protecting the wood.
Masonry paint is available to buy from your local DIY store to revamp your outside, perhaps even adding a splash of colour.
Garden Boundaries
Whether you’ve got a fence, wall, bushes or hedges you can tidy up your garden’s boundaries. This DIY job is simple to do yourself, and doesn’t have to break the bank. Your fence can be brought back to life with a lick of paint, choosing from the many colours DIY stores now offer. Hedges and bushes should be trimmed whenever needed to prevent them from becoming out of control.
Before you do anything confirm which boundaries are yours to ensure you are not altering something that belongs to your neighbour. It’s always worth speaking to them, as they may be interested in splitting the cost of your joint boundary.
Window Cleaning
Once you’ve completed these jobs, don’t forget to clean your windows and patio doors inside and out. Aside from looking stained, rain can also cause a build-up of debris on your sills and frames.
Once you’ve completed these jobs you can sit back and enjoy the summer relaxing in your garden. If you have a property to sell, we are now offering video valuations to get your property on the market. For advice on selling you can reach our team on 01633 870777
