As a local business employing local people we care about our community and its future, and we’re encouraging you to do the same. We’re lucky enough to sell and let properties in the surrounding towns and villages, which boast a plethora of local businesses on your doorstep.

Choosing to shop local instead of at the larger chains has many benefits for both you and your local area. You’re investing in the local economy, creating jobs and receiving customer service with a personal touch. If you’re looking for personality and character, discover the independent businesses in your area.

Caerleon

Nestled amongst the history of Caerleon are several independently owned shops, cafés and pubs, some of which are taking part in a late-night shopping event on Thursday 28th November. Shops such as Coopers and Machen Interiors are offering 10% off your purchases, as well as complimentary drinks and nibbles. Next time you’re passing through the village, pop into the shops and stop off for a cuppa or bite to eat at one of the many quirky locally owned businesses.

One of the newest businesses to open in Caerleon is Machen Interiors, however, the owner and business premises have actually been a firm fixture of the village for many years. Located on the one-way system, you’ve probably passed the house with the red door hundreds of times, but now you’re invited into their front room. Caroline Steadman has lived here for 25 years and, now that her children have flown the nest, she is spreading her own wings and following her love of interiors by transforming her front living room into a cave of amazing homewares.

Abergavenny

Positioned in the shadow of the Sugar Loaf Mountain, Abergavenny is a town known for its history, heritage and, of course, the annual Food Festival. A mecca for foodies, Abergavenny boasts plenty of gastropubs, ancient inns and restaurants for you to try after a morning of shopping. With a choice of homewares, fashion and beauty, you can buy anything from unique gifts to beautiful Italian shoes!

Found on Lewis Walk, Ruby Redz is an independent fashion boutique run for the past three years by Rachel Llewellyn. Rachel was brought up in Cwmbran before moving to Basingstoke where she ran a popular well-known hairdressing chain. Her love of unique fashion led her to open Ruby Redz and offer locals designers that you can’t get in chain shops or department stores.

Usk

On the banks of its namesake river is the picturesque market town of Usk, where the streets are lined with award-winning floral displays, charming old buildings and a Norman castle! As a regular winner of Wales in Bloom, Usk is a beautiful place to live and visit; its independent shops, tearooms and pubs will entice you into never leaving!

Combining a love of cake, coffee and interiors is Number 49, an independent coffee house that is a must-visit for anyone in the area and a firm favourite of locals. Whether you’re indulging in afternoon tea or a bowl of homemade soup, you won’t be able to resist moseying around the rooms filled with stunning interiors, clothes and accessories.
