What have you got planned for the summer? We don’t want to say the B word, but amid Brexit uncertainty, staycations have become an increasing trend – so we’ll be keeping our fingers crossed for a repeat of last summer’s heatwave! We want to encourage you to enjoy what your local area has to offer and have found some fun family events taking place this summer that won’t break the bank.
Monmouth Show Saturday 6th July
You’ve got nine days to experience the Monmouth Festival and, even better, it’s free! Over the last 36 years, the festival has grown, attracting visitors from all over the world, and is now one of the longest-running and largest volunteer-organised festivals in Europe. Enjoy an eclectic mix of iconic legends, local artists and up and coming young talent in dance, classical, country, folk, jazz, pop, rock ’n roll, ska, world music and so much more this July.
The Big Cheese Caerphilly Friday 26th - Sunday 28th July
If you’ve been to the Big Cheese before, this year it will look a little different. The festival has a new layout, new street-food stalls, a live lounge bar area, three food halls and live cookery demonstrations. Take the family along to this free event set in the grounds of Caerphilly Castle and enjoy food and drinks from local and regional Welsh producers.
Monmouth Festival Saturday 27th July – Sunday 4th August

Green Man Thursday 15th – Sunday 18th August
Nestled in the Brecon Beacons you’ll find the Green Man Settlement, an opportunity to camp amongst the area’s stunning mountains, forests, waterfalls and rivers. The festival will be showcasing music from almost 100 acts during the week-long celebrations, along with a big line-up of comedy, literature, film, performing arts and science.
Usk Show Saturday 14th September
Since 1844 on the second Saturday in September the Usk Farmer’s Club have held the Usk Show. Set at the 100-acre Usk Showground, it’s one of the biggest one-day agricultural shows in the UK.
