Research by job search engine Adzuna has hit the local news recently, triggering reactions and opinions across social media. The headline read ‘Newport ranked third best place to live in the UK’ and the responses were varied; some were proud, some sniggered, and some were surprised. Yet behind the headline is a city that has blossomed in recent years, bringing new business, jobs, homes and ever-increasing opportunities for all who live here.
Here at Hathways we love where we live, and we continue to promote all the benefits that living in this amazing city provides. Yes, Newport has a past, but it’s the future you should be focused on, and what the city can offer you and your family. Although Newport is a city, it’s made up of villages and towns that all have their own stories, histories and lovable qualities.
Every day we work with couples, families and singles to help them buy, sell, let or rent a property here. Some people have moved for work, others have moved for love, and many have lived here all of their lives, which is why we believe that, no matter where life takes you, you should always love where you live.
The research carried out by Adzuna ranks cities in the UK based on the number of jobs per person, average salary, rental prices and house prices. Aberdeen came first, Preston second and, with an average salary of £36,580 and, on average, just four people per job Newport outranked the rest of the cities in the UK.
Newport is the only location in Wales to make the top 10, making it a popular place for locals to remain and visitors to consider making their permanent home. This research proves what we have known for a long time: Newport has far more qualities than you may think. Aside from jobs, rent costs and house prices, you have a variety of areas to choose from depending on your lifestyle and what you’re looking for in a home.
City Living – Newport city centre offers a range of properties, from newly built apartments to large period homes. Properties here offer easy access to the M4, which runs through the city, with links to Cardiff, Swansea and Bristol, as well as train and bus services.
Village Life – The villages of Caerleon, Rhiwderin, Usk and many more allow you to enjoy all of the qualities of village life, yet they are located just outside of the main city. These villages offer excellent schools, community schemes and local shops, pubs and restaurants.
Commuter Towns – Areas such as Langstone and Rogerstone are situated ideally for commuters who work in Newport, Cardiff or Bristol, as they are close to junctions straight onto the M4 motorway.
Rural Spots – Magor and Abergavenny (just outside Newport) are perfect places to enjoy rural living surrounded by the open countryside, peace and quiet, and a slower pace of living. If you’re looking for minimum neighbours yet still want to be part of a tight-knit community, you may want to start your search here.
Whether you’re looking for work, for somewhere to bring up your children, or a place to retire, Newport has it all. For properties available to rent or buy here, call our team on 01633 870777 and tell us the type of home and lifestyle that you’re looking for.
