Zoopla have released a list of the most searched words by homebuyers, giving an insight into what potential buyers are really looking for. The list below has been created by the experts at Zoopla using analysis from their advanced property search tool over the past 12 months.

Has the Covid-19 pandemic had an impact on what buyers are looking for in a new home? Let’s take a look…

  1. Garden

“Garden” was the most searched for term by potential buyers and we’re not surprised. The last 12 months has seen us all spend more time in our gardens as we entertain and work from home. With so much uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, your garden becomes an extended living space as well as a place to enjoy the warmer months with your friends and family.

  1. Garage

Having a garage can boost your home’s value, as potential buyers are searching for this term when looking for a new home. Not only does a garage provide a safe place to park your car and potentially lower your car insurance, it can also be considered as additional living space or a replacement shed to store items and work in.

  1. Parking

Off-road parking is third on the list, with potential buyers preferring properties that have a driveway to park their car. Kerb appeal is extremely important when selling a house, by showing off your well-presented spacious driveway you can impress potential buyers before they’ve even stepped through the door.

  1. Detached

The following three terms prove that the Coronavirus has affected what buyers are looking for, detached, rural and secluded all help with social distancing. Many buyers have been improving their homes during lockdown meaning they are ready to upsize to a new detached home.

  1. Rural

At Hathway's, we cover all of the Newport and the surrounding areas and we are fortunate enough to market many rural properties offering homebuyers a taste of the countryside, yet just a short drive away from the local towns and cities.

  1. Secluded

Taking social distancing to the next level, “secluded” homes are becoming increasingly popular. If you are looking for a secluded home please tell our team who can help pick out our best private properties on the market.

  1. Bungalow

The coronavirus has made some homeowners realise that they need to downsize. A large space to clean and maintain during lockdown has led many people to make the decision to find a more suitable property such as bungalows.

  1. Balcony

Craving as much outdoor space as possible, a “balcony” has made it to number 8 on the list by homebuyers. If your home has a balcony make it look as appealing as possible for marketing pictures and viewings.

  1. Annexe

Bubbling with family members or looking after elderly relatives has led to more home hunters looking for a property with an annexe. While hospitals and care homes continue to struggle, extra living space is invaluable.

  1. Freehold

The benefits of buying a freehold property are that you don’t have to worry about a lease running out, paying any ground rent, or service charges. Many buyers want to own the property outright.

Could your home appeal to potential buyers? If your property boasts any of the features listed then make sure that they are highlighted when you sell, tidy up the garden, clean out the garage and free up and parking that’s available.
